Guan Di Temple

Taoist temple dedicated to the God of War

History

Located in the heart of Chinatown, this Taoist temple was founded in 1886.

It is dedicated to Guan Di (also known as Guan Yu), a revered general from ancient China who was later deified as the God of War and righteousness. Many local business owners and police officers pray to him for protection and guidance. The temple is a beautiful example of traditional Chinese temple architecture, with ornate carvings and dragon motifs on the roof.

Travel Tips

  • Atmosphere: The air is thick with the scent of incense, creating a powerful spiritual atmosphere.

  • The Guan Dao: Don't miss the temple's famous antique weapon, a 59kg copper guan dao (a type of polearm). It is believed that lifting it brings good fortune.

  • Respectful Observation: Be quiet and mindful of the worshippers inside.
