Chinatown Petaling Street

KL’s bustling market street
History
This is the historic heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Its origins trace back to the 1870s when Kapitan Yap Ah Loy identified the area for Chinese tin miners to establish their businesses. Petaling Street has survived fires, floods, and civil unrest to become the bustling, vibrant hub it is today. While known for its market, its true significance lies in its role as the cradle of KL’s development and the enduring spirit of the Chinese community. The iconic green-tiled archways at its entrances are a modern addition, but the soul of the place is in its narrow alleys, clan houses, and traditional food stalls.
