Carcosa Seri Negara

Colonial-era mansion turned heritage site

History

Perched on a hill overlooking the Perdana Botanical Gardens, these two colonial mansions have witnessed pivotal moments in Malaysian history.

Carcosa was built in 1898 as the official residence of the British Resident-General, while Seri Negara was added later as the Governor's guest house. It was here that the Constitution of Malaysia was drafted before independence in 1957. The complex served as a luxury hotel for many years but is currently closed to the public pending restoration. Its significance is immense, both architecturally and historically.

Travel Tips

  • Check Status: Before visiting, check the latest news on its status. As of now, public access to the buildings themselves is restricted.

  • Views: The grounds around the mansions offer beautiful, serene views of the surrounding gardens and the KL skyline.
