History
The Victorian Fountain originated during the peak of British rule. Initially constructed in 1897 at Market Square, it was relocated to Independence Square in 1904 due to traffic obstruction. Over a century old, it showcases beautiful Art Nouveau tile designs. The fountain was imported from England to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria's reign and honor the Empire and its sovereign.
Significance
Next to the historic flagpole where the Union Jack was lowered and the Malaysian flag was hoisted, along with the Kilometre Zero, the Queen Victoria fountain serves as a subtle yet significant symbol of the city's beginnings from its colonial past and continues to be a popular landmark for visitors.
