History
The Dayabumi Complex building was finished in February 1984. During its construction, Central Market, located close to the Klang River, was luckily spared from demolition. Initially, it was owned by the Urban Development Authority of Malaysia (UDA), but in 2005, KLCC Properties Holdings Berhad (KLCCP), part of the Petronas Group, took over ownership. KLCC Properties Holdings Berhad has recently renovated the Dayabumi Complex, adding a new lobby in phases 1 and 2 of the refurbishment project.
Significance
The Dayabumi Complex is a significant landmark in Kuala Lumpur, featuring various commercial facilities and being among the city's first skyscrapers. It is situated close to the National Mosque, the Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, and the Federal House on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin. The design reflects a modern Islamic style, with the tower's facade embellished with eight-pointed star patterns and Islamic arches at its top and bottom.
